Tochigi Spring ALT Cup 2006
Sat Apr 15th 2006: Day 1
Game 1: Saitama Jets 1 Chiba Jets 1 (Saitama win on pk shootout 5-4)
A solid battling display from the Jets saw them overcome the pre-tourny favourites Chiba on a penalty shootout. Chiba scored a great goal to take the lead, but Jets captain Mark Eite levelled things up with this strike:
Mark Eite's Lovely Goal
Game 2: Saitama Jets 3 Tochigi Jets 0
Jack Faircy got the first, John Rayner the second and Ryan Loren the third in a convincing 2nd half display against a one-man Tochigi team. Here is lanky Jack's flukey 50-50 challenge that flew into orbit and somehow the Tochigi net:
Jack's Bizarre Goal
Game 3: Saitama Jets 2 Yamanashi Jets 1
Another hard fought game in which Ryan Loren and Nate Gildart sealed victory for the Jets. The only other memorable incident was Mikey's miss from a few yards:

Sun Apr 16 2006: Day 2
Game 1: QF: Saitama Jets 2 Akita Jets 0
Yet another bruising game against a physical Akita side. Saitama managed to outfight and outplay Akita with Chris Piper and Nate Gildart sealing victory. Mark Eite had the best chance to make it safe, but instead once again he makes it onto my bloopers show, somehow missing an open goal from a few yards out:

Game 2: Semi-Final: Saitama Jets 2 Chiba Jets 2 (Saitama win 4-3 on penalties)
Surely one of Saitama Jets' greatest ever victories. We took the lead through a Gary Garner penalty, then Chiba came back through a headed goal and a breakaway strike. Just as they thought they had it in the bag Saitama put together a lovely move resulting in Ryan Loren sweeping the ball home. Then followed the tense pk shootout:
Penalty Shootout
Game 3: Final: Saitama Jets 2 Miyagi Jets 0
Yet another trophy in the bag as Saitama Jets strolled to a comfortable win against a Miyagi side that had given everything just to get this far. Mark Eite and speedy Mike Passmore bagged the goals to become Jets heros, whilst Magician Fraser Gould will be left only dreaming of what might have been:

TML Division 2
Saturday Feb 5th 2006
Saitama Jets 3 Mauritizio 2
Jets got off to a strong start with a well taken penalty by Gary Garner and a flukey free kick by Tomo Kobayashi. Mauritizio played hard and fought their way back into it, but Nate Gildart's goal put the Jets back in front. mark Eite had many chances to wrap things up but left his shooting boots at Saitama Stadium. Anyway, the win put the Jets at the top of the league.

Saitama Stadium Tournament!! |
Saturday 14th January 2006
Saturday: Game1: Saitama Jets 0 Mie 0 (Jets lose on PKs)
A pretty boring 0-0 draw in a game which Saitama Jets dominated but failed to break down the resiliant Mie Jets defence. A penalty shootout ensued, with Mike Passmore being the unlucky one to miss for the Jets with a wild strike.
|
Saturday: Game2: Saitama Jets 1 Ashiya Titans 4
The Jets started well with a goal from Chris Piper, but the Ashiya Titans played a 4-3-3 formation which upset the Jets defence and gave them a crushing 4-1 victory in a forty minute match! The Saitama Jets were outplayed and outfought.
|
Saturday: Game3: Saitama Jets 2 Nagano 1
A brilliant response from the Saitama Jets saw them beat old foes Nagano Jets 2-1 in a thoroughly deserved victory. Gary Garner got the first with "mazy dribble and rocket shot" to quote himself, Nate Gildart got the second before Nagano scored a consolation near the end.
Gary Garner's Goal (Ha!) |
|
Sunday 15th January 2006
Sunday: Game1 Quarter Final: Saitama Jets 1 Hyogo 0
Saitama Jets played Hyogo Jets (Saitama finished bottom of their group, Hyogo top of their's) and a 40 yard floater from Gary Garner was the difference between the two sides in a fiercely competitive game.
Gary Garner's wind assisted goal
Sunday: Game2 Semi Final: Saitama Jets 0 Shonai Knights 0
(PK: Saitama Jets 8 Shonai 7) |
A close game against the Shonai Giants predictably ended in a 0-0 draw although the Jets created most of the chances. A penalty shootout followed and after 8 Jets netted successfully, the sharp shooting Knights were thwarted by the Kousuke who finally managed to save one of their penalties to send the Jets into the final.

Sunday: Final in Saitama Stadium:Saitama Jets 2 Niigata Jets 1
